As competition heats up for Omega Player of the Year, spectacular talent showed up to the tee boxes of University of Maryland Golf Club, September 25 during the annual Mid-Atlantic Professional Golf Association (MAPGA) Club Car Professional Championship.

Also, Scott Shapin hailing from Old South Country Club achieved his first top-10 Section finish and earned almost $1,700 after capturing the victory from reigning champion Jimmy Flippen of Ringgold Golf Club.

Although Flippen led the round with six birdies, Shapin kept his composure by maintaining a par average and capitalizing on crucial Par-4 and Par-5 birdie opportunities just before making the turn to the back nine.

Where Flippen had the most birdies on the day, he also received four bogies just after two chains of birdie golf.

Nevertheless, Flippen remains in the top-five of the player of the year rankings with a total of five, top-five finishes in eight tournament appearances, whereas Shapin is ranked 20th.

During the same weekend, the MAPGA Teaching Professional Championship presented by Taylormade, John O’Leary professional at Trump National Golf Club was able to settle right behind player of the year leader, Ryan Zylstra from the Federal Club.
