The truth in satire is always a tough pill to swallow, but was this the case for critically acclaimed Hall of Fame writer Dan Jenkins of Golf Digest?
According to TigerWoods the mock interview article Jenkins posted was "Not funny, Not True" and below the belt.
Woods in an effort to defend his name responded on the website The Player's Tribune to his fans seeking support against the article.
"Did you read Dan Jenkins’ interview with me in the latest Golf Digest?," Woods said in an interview with Golf Digest. "I hope not. Because it wasn’t me. It was some jerk he created to pretend he was talking to me. That’s right, Jenkins faked an interview, which fails as parody, and is really more like a grudge-fueled piece of character assassination."
In Woods blogged rebuttal, he could not help believe
that Jenkins alongside the Golf Digest team posted this
article with the intent of slander.
According to Woods, he was surprised that Golf
Digest, a group of media professionals allowed
the article to reach print.
With disbelief, Woods begged the question of why Golf
Digest would go around him, if not to discredit his name.
Bringing reference to the photo above which was posted by a model of Golf Digest, Woods asks if Golf Digest believed that he couldn't roll with the punches?
"I like to think I have a good sense of humor, and that I’m more than willing to laugh at myself," Woods said. "In this game, you have to. I’ve been playing golf for a long time, 20 years on the PGA Tour. I’ve given lots of interviews to journalists in all that time, more than I could count, and some have been good and some not so much. All athletes know that we will be under scrutiny from the media."
However, with little remorse, Jenkins took to Twitter saying, "My next column for Tiger: defining parody and satire. I thought I let him off easy."
What can be described as verbal spar match between to highly respected and influential people, the only question that remains to be answered is:
Were Jenkins jabs to tough, or was Woods' skin not thick enough?
Jenkins interview fails as parody and is really grudge-fueled-character- assassination
