SAVE YOUR SNEAKERS

 

As another semester comes to a close, Liberty University’s School of Business club Enactus has partnered with the nonprofit organization Shoe Good to provide students with one last opportunity to impact the world this semester.

 

With summer break quickly approaching, Enactus is hoping that students will be willing to donate their old or unwanted shoes.

 

“Shoe Good is a nonprofit organization that distributes donated shoes to impoverished and often times disaster stricken communities around the world,” School of Business student Jessica Hippe said. [...]

FRESHMAN TAKES FIRST

 

People from all over the Greater Lynchburg Area gathered at Camp Hydaway Thursday, April 3, to compete in the Liberty Mt. 5K Trail Race.

 

“The event ran very well, and we had a great turnout, even with the postponement,” Associate Director of Student Activities (SA) Joshua Yeoman said. “The weather was terrific. Live results were a hit, and everything went safe and smooth.”

Each morning as students and faculty make their way into Demoss Hall to start their day, two Liberty University employees are already in the academic building, brewing coffee and organizing treats in anticipation of jumpstarting minds all over campus.

ALLUVION ENRICHES, EDUCATES

 

The Alluvion Stage Company, which has produced plays such as Peter Pan, Tarzan and Les Miserables will be opening its curtains to premiere British playwright Diane Samuels’ award-winning drama “Kindertransport,” Thursday, Jan. 30 at 7:30 p.m.

 

Alluvion will host “Kindertransport” at the Academy of Fine Arts Warehouse Theater located at 600 Main St. in downtown Lynchburg. The show will run for four straight days, Jan. 30-Feb. 2 at 7:30 p.m. and will have additional shows Feb. 1-2 at 3:00 p.m. [...]

LIBERTY OPENS NEW CAMPUS GARDEN

 

Dedicating the Liberty University Garden in memory of the late Henry and Elvira Morris, President Jerry Falwell, Jr., and the Liberty University community gathered atop Liberty Mountain in celebration of new life, Friday, Oct. 25.

 

Students, faculty and staff enjoyed food samplings, cooking demonstrations and a tour of the Morris Campus Garden.

 

However, before anyone could take part in the festivities or pay compliments to Executive Director of Sodexo Chef Craig DaSuta for his bruschetta, hot soups and pumpkin pancakes, members of administration participated in a ribbon cutting ceremony, offering kind words toward the Morris family. SGA HOSTS PAINTBALL TOURNAMENT IN SUPPORT FOR SARAH MCKEOWN FAMILY

 

Despite the rain Saturday, Oct.12, many students trekked up to the Liberty University Paintball Facility to compete in an adrenaline-pumping tournament of three versus three, double-elimination, capture the flag fun, hosted by the Student Government Association (SGA).

 

The tournament was hosted in honor of Sarah McKeown, a recently deceased Liberty University graduate, former Flames Crew Team member and member of Liberty’s Spirit of the Mountain Marching Band. [...]

WRESTLERS COMPETE IN JACOB CHALLENGE

 

The Bible tells a story of a young man confronted in the middle of the night by an unknown traveler. Locking hands in head-to-head combat, the young man fought valiantly against the traveler until the break of dawn.

 

This is the story of Jacob, “The Grasper of Heels,” who fought with God and became blessed with new life.

 

Forty young men gathered Friday, Sept. 20 in the wrestling room located near the south end zone of Williams Stadium to test their will in a 24-hour training event called the “Jacob Challenge.” [...]

STUDENT ACTIVITIES HOSTS ANNUAL BLOCK PARTY

 

As the new semester began, students navigated a busy week, which included Spiritual Emphasis Week as well as regularly scheduled classes, at Liberty University. While students remained active, Student Activities members organized the annual fall kick-off event, the Block Party.

 

Liberty students, faculty and alumni gathered Aug. 24 in the LaHaye Student Union parking lot to enjoy the longstanding Liberty tradition of enjoying carnival rides, including a ferris wheel and a mechanical bull, live music and a fireworks show. [...]

Scaling the indoor cliffs of Central Virginia, it has been four years since rock climbing facility Rise Up Climbing burst into Lynchburg’s social scene.
