Marines kick up their warrior skills learning Muay Thai
As sweat leaked from the brows of 10 Marine Corps Martial Arts Program (MCMAP) trainee instructors, a grit was being forged that could not be replicated without the determination of brothers and sisters of the Corps joining together to receive the imparted wisdom of Marines past and present.

The seminar was the second in a training and lecture series designed by Headquarters and Service Battalion (H&S Bn.) at Yale Hall, in which Marines were taught the basics of Muay Thai, also known as Thai Kickboxing.
Marine Corps creates new division to head up fitness
After a shift in the dynamic of Marine Corps fitness in 2016, and a physical fitness system that has been spread throughout different commands, the Marine Corps has taken steps to strengthen the physical fitness program by putting all aspects of physical fitness under the newly created Force Fitness Division (FFD) that will operate under the Training and Education Command (TECOM), based out of Marine Corps Base Quantico.
World War II vet trades war stories with the next generation of Marines

Ninety-seven year-old James “Horse” Smith, also known as “Horse Collar”, a member of the World War II, 1st Marine Raider Battalion, was welcomed to Marine Corps Base Quantico’s Raider Hall Martial Arts Center of Excellence March 6, to speak with Marine Corps Embassy Security Group Marines about his experience on Guadalcanal and to offer words of inspiration for Professional Military Education.
Quantico hosts Fifth Annual Special Olympics Fun Field Day Meet
Rain couldn’t stop more than 80 young athletes from a fun day out as Marine Corps Base Quantico’s Exceptional Family Member Program (EFMP) hosted their Fifth Annual Special Olympics Fun Field Day Meet April 22 in Barber Physical Activity Center.

The event was originally scheduled to take place in Butler Stadium, but was moved inside to the gym due to rain. The meet was a non-competitive athletic event for contestants ages three to adult diagnosed with intellectual or developmental disabilities and included athletes from EFMP and surrounding communities.
Paintball comes to Quantico next weekend
Marine Corps Base Quantico will host the grand opening weekend of its new paintball park July 14 – 16. Active duty military personnel are invited to partake in an afternoon of free paintball on July 14 beginning at 11 a.m.

For the last month Quantico’s Marine Corps Community Services, in conjunction with the Single Marine Program and The Paintball Park have hosted preview weekends to build awareness of the new base attraction. The final preview is scheduled July 8-9.
Veteran Marine inspires leadership at lecture series
Over 100 Marine noncommissioned officers gathered at Marine Corps University’s Warner Hall Auditorium aboard base to listen to retired Marine Gunnery Sgt. Nick Popaditch speak as part of the 17th Annual Walter K. Singleton Distinguished Lecture Series.

The lecture series was created to memorialize Medal of Honor recipient Sgt. Walter Singleton, a young Marine killed in the line of duty during the Vietnam War, but not before he carried numerous wounded Marines across a kill zone to safety and destroyed an enemy’s position.
Quantico Shooting Club honors the fallen over Memorial Day weekend
Over Memorial Day weekend, May 26-28, the Quantico Shooting Club (QSC), located on the west side of Marine Corps Base Quantico, honored and preserved the memories of brave service members who paid the ultimate sacrifice by hosting the Eighth Annual Remember the Brave Shooting Match.

Retired Marine and event organizer Stephen Beck has hosted the match every year because he believes the armed forces are steeped in the tradition of recognizing the accomplishments of those who serve our country.
Decorated female veteran speaks about striving to be phenomenal
Over 100 ladies gathered together at The Clubs at Quantico (TCAQ) March 25, for the 4th Annual National Naval Officers Association (NNOA) Ladies Luncheon in honor of Women’s History month, which is celebrated in March.

Inspired by one unified mantra—“Phenomenal Women, Phenomenal Dreams”—TCAQ radiated the energy of mothers, daughters, sisters, and friends, as one thought resonated amongst every woman in attendance—opportunity.
Lyman family donates plaque in memory of Maj. Gen. Charles H. Lyman
Tucked within 65,000-acres of Marine Corps Base Quantico sits Lyman Park, a residential community of Lincoln Military Housing, with a long, rich history, which includes how it got its name.

Retired Marine Col. Charles H. Lyman IV, joined by his wife Betsy Lyman, recently visited Lincoln Military Housing to dedicate a plaque in honor of his late grandfather, Maj. Gen. Charles H. Lyman II, for which Lyman Park neighborhood was named.
